SuperDARN News item: EPS Paper by Shinbori et al. (2022) wins SGEPSS Outstanding Paper Award 2023
Prof. Nishitani-san has shared the news that a paper by colleague Dr. Atsuki Shinbori and coauthors has won the Society of Geomagnetism and Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences (SGEPSS) Outstanding Paper Award for 2023. The paper appeared in Earth, Planets and Space (EPS) journal. It examines conjugate aspects of the ionopheric response to the Hunga Tonga volcanic eruption using data from GNSS-TEC and the SuperDARN Hokkaido pair of radars. The details of the award ceremony, held during the 2023 SGEPSS Fall Meeting in Sendai in September, can be found at https://www.isee.nagoya-u.ac.jp/en/news/awards/2023/20231013-2.html Citation: Shinbori, A., Otsuka, Y., Sori, T. et al. Electromagnetic conjugacy of ionospheric disturbances after the 2022 Hunga Tonga-Hunga Haapai volcanic eruption as seen in GNSS-TEC and SuperDARN Hokkaido pair of radars observations. Earth Planets Space 74, 106 (2022). https://doi.org/10.1186/s40623-022-01665-8 As Nishitani-san comments: "It is an excellent opportunity to appeal the usefulness of the SuperDARN not only to the space science community but also to other fields, such as solid earth science." Congratulations to Shinbori-san and coauthors! The attached Figure is the Graphical Abstract from Shinbori et al. (2022)
