Fort Hays East
FORT HAYS, KS (38.86 N, -99.39 E) The SuperDARN radars at Fort Hays, KS, mark yet another milestone in the history of HF radars. For the first time, two identical arrays have been build at the same site, looking in different directions - obviously. The antenna arrays form a chevron. These two radars, Fort Hays East and Fort Hays West, mark the beginning of the effort of the MSI Consortium to build 4 such double radars at mid-latitudes in 4 years. The Fort Hays Radar is maintained locally by Mr. Cody Jiles of Fort Hays State University.<br> Notes: The physical boresite of the Fort Hays West radar, i.e. the direction normal to the antenna array, is -25 degree relative to geographic North. The physical boresite of the Fort Hays East radar is 45 degree relative to geographic North. In 2010 six beams were added symmetrically around the boresite, three on each side, in order to close the gap between the fields-of-view of the two radars. The Fort Hays site is currently running the ROS 3.1-beta-17 software and a normalscan type pulse scheme. The site uses the GC314 digital receiver card and gc314FS_driver.1.31 driver.
