King Salmon
KING SALMON, ALASKA (58.68 N, -156.65 E) The King Salmon radar began operations in October, 2001 radar as a joint effort between SuperDARN groups in Japan and the United States. The agreements have included the Alaska-Project Agreement (NICT and UAF/GI) and the KSTR-HOK Agreement (NICT, STEL, and UEC). The PI is Dr. Tsutomu Nagatsuma of NICT. In March 2021 Nagatsuma-san announed that he was stepping down as PI of the King Salmon radar. Ownership of the asset wil be passed to Bil Bristow and UAF. Nagatsuma-san has been as SuperDARN PI since 2009 and was the host of the 2019 Workshop in Fujiyoshida (Japan). These high velocities are believed to be errors in the data.
